By the teacher's call

Pointe

Pointe work begins when your teacher says you are ready. It is a conversation about strength and technique, and it never depends on an age.

Sreymom teaches the pointe class in a smaller group in Studio B. Students who work on pointe also take a technique class and the conditioning class each week.

How a student comes to pointe

Four steps, taken at the student's pace.

  1. 01

Step 1: Talk with your teacher

Your teacher and Alfonzo look at your technique and your strength, and say what to work on first.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Build the strength

Conditioning and technique classes work on the feet, the ankles and the core before any pointe shoes.

  3. 03

Step 3: Choose the shoes together

Shoes are fitted with your teacher before the first class, and bought separately from tuition.

  4. 04

Step 4: Start at the barre

The first pointe classes stay at the barre. The center follows when your teacher decides.

Good to know

  • What to wear

A leotard, tights and your fitted pointe shoes. Hair is off the neck, and jewelry stays at home.

  • Class length

The pointe class runs an hour and fifteen minutes.

  • Class size

Classes of up to 8 students, so each pair of feet is seen.

  • Pain

Tell your teacher about any pain, before or during class. The teacher will change what you do that day.

Ask about pointe at a placement visit

Bring your questions to a placement visit. The teacher will talk with you about where you are.
