Adult ballet

A ballet class for adults who have never danced and adults who stopped years ago. Nobody is behind here; everyone starts where they are.

Melba teaches the daytime and Saturday classes, and she came back to ballet as an adult herself. Evening classes are shared with teens at the Intermediate level and above. You don't need a partner, a leotard or any experience.

  • Morning, evening and Saturday classes

  • Foundations for those new to ballet

  • Come back after a long break

What the first weeks tend to look like, in four steps.

  1. 01

Step 1: Book a placement visit

Take a class and talk with Melba or Alfonzo about what you have done, and what you want.

  2. 02

Step 2: Start at the barre

The first classes are about the barre: how to stand, how to hold your arms, and how the steps are named.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Learn the order

Each class follows the same order, so the steps become familiar and the combinations get longer.

  4. 04

Step 4: Stay as long as you like

Many adults take one class a week for years. Others take a second class, or try pointe or conditioning.

Good to know

  • What to wear

Workout clothes you can move in, or a leotard and tights if you like. Soft slippers or socks are fine at first.

  • Class length

Morning classes run an hour and fifteen minutes, and evening classes up to an hour and a half.

  • Class size

Classes of up to 12 students. Nobody is singled out at the barre.

  • Your level

Most adults start in Foundations. If you danced as a child, tell us and we may suggest Elementary.
